The Popeye's Chicken Sandwich - 4.5 Landaus

Yes, I've had it so nanny nanny boo boo. Hit the drive thru at City and Haverford last week for dinner just before the hype train really took off. Now, apparently, the line is so long it backs traffic up on Haverford Ave. Good luck. Anyway, I went with the normal sandwich as opposed to the spicy one, which I have since learned was probably a mistake. A spicy chicken sandwich review will be forthcoming once Popeye's gets its shit together and you don't have to camp out for it like a new iPhone circa 2012.

So--the regular chicken sandwich. The chicken is INSANE...it's a huge breast (insert Butthead laugh here) which is perfectly juicy and crispy and salty and fatty and almost a different species from what Chick Fil-a serves. Then there are the standard mayo and pickles (THE PICKLE TASTES LIKE CHICKEN! YOU HEAR ME?!). The chicken is ever so slightly greasy, but that's to be expected. Pro tip: if you eat it in your car your entire car will smell like Popeye's for about a week. It's like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry couldn't get the BO out of his car.

All of it melds perfectly together to form one of the better fast food experiences of my life. The problem, if you want to call it that, is the bun. Whereas Chick Fil-a goes with a classic potato bun, Popeye's uses a thick brioche. Too thick if you ask me. Like, THICC AF as the kids say these days. Don't get me wrong, it's tasty but it's just too much bread.

Overall, this is a worthy experience and definitely worth trying so at the very least you, too, can compare it to Chick Fil-a like everybody else does. Some people tell me Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich is better, but those people can get fucked. If I get it for free after someone misses 2 free throws in a Sixers game I'll try it. Otherwise this is a 2 chicken race.

4.5 Landaus

4.8 if they get the bun right
